Looking for a pretty good island with everything you can think of that would only make you live the beach dream life within your budget? Well, pack your bags for this luxurious island in the Maldives, Meeru Island Resort and Spa.

Located a 55 minute speed boat ride from the Velana International Airport (MLE) is one of the most beautiful island of North Atoll. Meeru Island is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon and a long stretch of white, sandy beach. It is the ONLY resort on the island of Meerufenfushi. The island is 1200 meters long by 350 meters wide and about 32 hectares. This is my next stop for 3 days and 3 nights. I couldn’t wait to get on the speed boat.

First of all, the resort speed boat was waiting at the airport to pick up the guests. While boarding, the drivers who were always smiling packed our luggage unto the large boat, and then we set off for the island. Along the way, you could enjoy the breath-taking seascape, take pictures of the various ships and also see the bungalows of other resorts for an entire 55 minutes.

Funny enough, I didn’t get sea sick. As we pulled in and the driver anchored the boat, you could hear faint music. I was thinking there must be an event happening now, but as started to make our way off the boat and to the island. We got a surprise!. SURPRISE!!!!!

The epic arrival

Approaching the main entrance, the music got louder and not before long you could see the staff from the reception area of the hotel with drums, and hand claps making beautiful music and welcoming us to the resort. This was indeed the highlight of the afternoon.

The Full Board – All Inclusive package

After being ushered to the comfortable beach setting lounge area where a welcome drink and your personal package awaits, I received my room key and personal bell boy who carried my suitcase on this shoulder to room 804.  I stayed in a Garden Room near Dhoni Bar Pool. It has a wooden sun deck a privacy screen between the rooms and a shaded area beneath the coconut palms and a beautiful view of the tropical gardens. I had booked the FULL BOARD package which is All Inclusive, but doesn’t include alcohol. If you are lucky and plan your trip way ahead of time, you could stay in Jacuzzi water Villas, Water Front Villas, Jacuzzi Beach Villas or Beach Villas and get the All-inclusive Plus package which includes all kinds of beverages and alcohol, but as you may perhaps guess, these go fast and are more expensive.

Dhoni Bar pool is a PHOTO SPOT!!!

Let me just say this. La HERMOSA ISLA DE MEERU ES MAGNIFICO!!!!! It is so magnificent that you shouldn’t go alone… Which was what I did. I needed some time for myself so I travelled all the way to this beautiful sunny isle alone and let me tell you, Boos and Boodets! I wish I had my besties there because I kept thinking to myself. All this fun and sun for me, all this spa and relaxation time for me, all this food for me, all the parties just for me? Oh my goodness SCREAAAAAMMMSSS!!!! This is so selfish, ha ha ha, but I am loving it and trust me you would too.

Farivalhu Buffet Restaurant

Related imageI ate at Farivalhu Buffer Restaurant every single day. I had breakfast at 7:30, Lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 19:00. This is one of the Full Board Buffet and yes meals are included in the room rate. Screams!!!!  This restaurant is basically in the center of the island. It’s a traditional open air styled restaurant with sand floor and thatched roofs. GEORGEOUS!!! Whoever created the menu is a genius, the restaurant has Indian, European, Asian, Mediterranean, American,Caribbean cuisine and more. I had to skip lunch once because I had eaten too much at breakfast. Hahaha!

Related imageYou do not want to do that although you might not be able to help it. The food is delicious. The pastries are beautiful and tasty, the ice cream bar… good heavens! There are four other restaurants on the island and I was too full sometimes to make it to the others. Don’t judge me.

Spa day – Duniye Spa

Soon after I arrived it was Spa Day!!! YAY!!!   I was picked up by my driver and then set off to the spa heaven.  I booked the coconut Body Polish Exfoliate and Moisture package. It included a back massage with warm coconut oil that prepared my shin for a sensual coconut body polish afterwards.

However after getting a 12% discounts with this booking I was also received a  FREE 30 min foot massage.  I went to therapeutic heaven justo en ese momemto.

Be sure to book your spa appointment BEFORE arriving on the island. You might run out of luck if you try to make an appointment when you arrive. This will also give you enough time to check out the various packages of the 5 page menu and decide what’s best for your body, beauty and passion. There are signature treatments, packages tailored to couples. ‘Couples Indulgence’, facial care packages. massages and lots more.

Meeru Island Entertainment

Meeru Island has so much to offer every day of the week. Since I was there on a Friday I joined the Maldivian Culture and History event at Kakuni Bar. It is fun and informative and lasted 30 minutes. The following night I went to play some billiards at the same bar and to my surprise there was a GLOW REGGAE DISCO PARTY. YASSS!!! (Dem a play Charlie Blacks to rock stone…..) I started to flip it like a Flipagram immediately. It was dancing time and a beautiful couple I met there and I decided to steal the dance floor  and played pool all night. We were decked out in glow bracelets and necklaces. It was a fantastic night. MAGNIFICO!  The sand and sea is beautiful, soft and all the lovely adjectives you can think of to describe heaven on earth.

Click the link below to see the party setting.

There are lots of PHOTO SPOTS , and if you LOVE taking photos like me then shoot away.

I wish my personal photographer was there, but it was me time so I got photo taken by random staff members who offered and took pride in taking them. They were making sure they caught every beautiful moment. Gosh!! I love the staff, and my selfie stick! Hehe.

There are land sports that will keep you in shape if you care to. there is a lighted tennis courts, golf course, bicycle rental, badminton court, fitness center, beach volleyball, table tennis, billiards, darts, football field, 2 Fresh Water Swimming Pool on the beach and a children’s wading pool. There is always something to do. You can even play a game of chess.

The Gift Shop , Business Center and Museum

Last but not least, if you didn’t stay in the city first and wanted to buy a few souvenirs but don’t want to take a speedboat back to town and tour with other guest for a price, then have no fear. There is a souvenir shop on the island. I had already bought stuff in town, but forgot to get someone for a friend so I did shop again…

The business center is near the gift shop so if you want to check your mail please go there.

The  MEERU ISLAND RESORT and SPA museum is a stone throw away from the Farivalhu Buffer Restaurant and I just had to sign the guest book and even drew a flag of Jamaica in it. HAHAA!!!!!

The museum exhibits several artifacts from centuries ago that portray the Maldivian way of life. Particularly how the early local Maldivians cooked, dressed, traveled and schooled. From traditional wooden box used as travel storage (lakudi foshi), to wooden Maldivian sandals worn until the early 1980s (ujjehi maravalhhi), Meeru Museum is sure to intrigue culturally curious minds. I was impressed.

I really loved this experience and I look forward to visiting again someday and definitely with someone next time.
